History of the designer
Vetements is a fashion brand, helmed by an anonymous design collective. The brand was founded in 2014 as a collective of seven designers who prefer to be anonymous. Championing a more 'pragmatic' approach to fashion, Vetements reflects the 'down to what today's youth wear.'
Collectively, the seven designers of Vetements are alumni of Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Die Angewandte in Vienna, Studio Berçot in Paris and at different points in time, Maison Margiela. Vetements' most prominent designer, Demna Gvasalia, was appointed creative director of Balenciaga in 2016, stepping down from his position at Vetements in 2019.
